EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
I began using the #Edumentalhashtag in January, 2020, prior to World Education Day, which
ROFFEKE commemorated on January 24th, 2020. A report of the event, courtesy of Wangari
Kabiru, one of the speakers, is available online. Little did we know that one month later,
education would be heavily impacted by a global pandemic.
There was a plethora of virtual events, summits, seminars and meetings due to the “new
normal”. This afforded me a chance to attend virtual events that I would otherwise have not
been able to attend because of time, distance, financial and sometimes, even “credentials”
constraints.
Why is ROFFEKE - a rock film festival - interested in education? There are many reasons but
in short, education is part of the objectives of ROFFEKE. Also, education plays a crucial role
in the achievement of ROFFEKE’s mission: to promote rock music in Kenya via film by
dispelling rock ‘n’ roll myths and misconceptions.
On a personal level, I strongly believe in lifelong learning
and continue to do so via ROFFEKE-related activities and
also via my own adventures as a poet, screenwriter and
mental health enthusiast.
